“Born from shame: Desiring the new human”

University of Technology Darmstadt

Abstract: First, a single performance of desire will be presented – a desire to overcome imperfection and shame (a desire that is created and constructed and articulated by imaging a more perfect future self only by whose standards we see our imperfections). Second, I will identify this desire as an implication of the discourse on emerging technologies , one of the few actual implications of this discourse, namely that it induces what Günther Anders has called Promethean Shame. Third, I will present an argument that radically subverts Promethean Shame and the desire that produces it.
